ROLE: Head of Content & community
I worked at Proteus for 4 years as their Head of Content and Community. It was here that I got to put all the skills I learned at Red Bull to test and scale a startup’s marketing efforts from zero. I built a content team from scratch, grew the Instagram to over 20k organically, and launched a robust and active community platform & ambassador program.
Project #1: Growing Instagram from 1-10k followers in just over a year…
I took over the Proteus Motion channels at the start of 2021. Back then, they had a mere 1,200 followers, not a single marketing personnel, and only really operated on one platform: Instagram.
In just 13 months, I took the Instagram to 10k followers organically (absolutely no paid!). My secret sauce? A strategic UGC program, effective use of trends via archived content, and a very active community engagement strategy. View a deep dive on my strategy to the left.
The account now sits over 20k - a milestone we hit not too long after when I was able to bring on team to help scale.
I also launched their TikTok, which surpassed 10k followers in just 11 months.

Project #2: Building a Community Platform
Once the community engagement started growing on Instagram, we realized we needed to move our audience off the platform and onto a place that we could own and foster conversations on.
Proteus is a product with a learning curve. A community platform would provide an opportunity to ease the path to mastery and give our sales team something tangible to help convert those hesitant of the onboarding process.
I spent the next 6 months building out a community hub for us on Circle—my personal favorite platform for community development. The hub featured forums, product education and FAQs, courses, webinars & live events, and direct access to the Proteus team.
The community quickly adopted it and membership has been increasing steadily over the past 2 years!
Project #3: Scaling original formats & ownable social content
I saw early on that our audience had a desire for deep dive, premium content. After securing my first-full time hire, my producer and I got to work building out a roster of ownable and repeatable formats that we could bulk shoot recurrently on a quarterly basis.
This quarterly shoot strategy allowed us to not only secure premium, high performing content but also foster deeper relationships with the sites who loved us most.
Project #4: Launching an Ambassador Program
As demand for our product grew, so did our need to create a roster of certified trainers who could promote Proteus and assist in running sales demos across the U.S.
In 2022, my team launched the Proteus Certified Trainer Program to gauge interest from our community. After an influx of applications and interest, we decided to re-launch the program the following year with three-tiers, curated exclusive perks, and the opportunity to make commission for generating sales.
